Summer 2010

GREEN gave me the confidence to send my resume to as many companies as I could find that I was interested in. I made finding a summer internship a priority. Partly because of GREEN I got interviews with 4 companies and every single one of them asked about GREEN. I had plenty to talk about, and I have no doubt that GREEN played a large role in the 3 job offers I got. I chose to take a co-op with General Electric Energy. I am currently working on an advanced combustion team working to make gas turbines more efficient. The skills I am gaining here are invaluable and I am learning more everyday than I ever thought possible. GREEN gave me an edge in the interview process because when I said I was very interested in a career in alternative energy and sustainability, I was not just talking. I had something to show for it.

I recently was lucky enough to participate in this program through my school and I can say that it was easily one of the most enriching experiences of my life.  I got to visit a wind farm and learn about the costs and processes that go into starting a wind farm.  I was able to take a look inside a geothermal plant at the base of a volcano.  I learned about and visited a rice producer that burns rice husks to produce its own electricity.  The best part is that once you are a GREEN alumnus, you are forever connected to a network of alumni that can help you on your journey to starting your own green business.

I have wanted to attend this program for 2 years, however have not been financially capable until this year.  I am attaining a degree in environmental policy so I was not benign to the concept of sustainability.  However, I had never conceived a country being able to function so efficiently whilst being on their way to carbon neutrality.  I can honestly say that Costa Rica is the country of my dreams, in a world of hopelessness, and it gives me hope for people and the future of our planet.   I will tell every student I know about this experience.  Thank you so much!

I had an amazing time in Costa Rica.  We had such a great group of people and counselors.  What I liked the most about this trip was how much I got thinking about how I can apply what I learned to my career.  I loved every moment.  Pura Vida!

GREEN is one of the best programs I’ve done.  You learn so much about people, yourself, & energy all the while having the time of your life.  Cliché, I know, but true.

The GREEN program has been a once in a lifetime experience, seriously.  I’ve learned so much about the country of Costa Rica and renewable energy while doing so many activities alongside such a wonderful, unique mix of people from all over the country world.  Without a doubt I would recommend GREEN to anyone and my only suggestion would be to constantly have an open mind.

This program was absolutely amazing; definitely one of the best experiences of my life.  I have never felt more alive than I have on this trip.  Everyone’s attitude towards renewable energy is so refreshing and gives our future some hope.  It was so easy to make friends and I instantly felt comfortable and would definitely recommend this program to everyone.

I’m quiet, and I’m shy.  I’ve been on group trips before and most of the time I sit on the sidelines watching other people have fun.  GREEN is the first time I felt a part of the group.  During my time in Costa Rica, I not only felt like I belonged, but that I become part of a family.  I made so many connections with people, and learned so much about sustainability, life, and myself.  I loved growing academically and emotionally and being pushed through what we did, saw, and warned.  Through the rest of my life, I know I will come back to Costa Rica and always remember everything, Costa Rica and GREEN mean to me.

This trip was everything that I never expected.  I faced my fear of heights and hiking over and over.  This was definitely one of the best experiences I have ever had.  It made me realize how much I want to travel the world and fill my mind with knowledge.  This was so life-changing for me.  I would definitely recommend anyone to on this trip. It’s absolutely amazing.

I am thankful for safe travels, amazing adventures, pivotal people, exceptional education, unforgettable friendships, and epic experiences of unfathomable proportions.  I feel blessed beyond measure and have a newly found home in Tilaran, Guanacaste in Costa Rica.

The counselors were amazing at tailoring the adventures to the group of individuals, as each group is different.  I felt as if I had a voice and corrective actions were readily implemented.
