18+ Years Old Must have a valid US Passport or International Visa to travel to Costa Rica - Don't Have One? An applicant must be enrolled in a university degree program While student GPA is an important factor, acceptance to the GREEN Program is based on a series of essays An ideal GREEN Student is open-minded, self-motivated, adventurous and eager to learn. |

The 2012 Summer Program Fee is $2450. A group discount is available for groups of two or more. Five annual scholarships are also available and are reviewed on a rolling basis. Many Universities and outside organizations offer funding and support for programs like ours.

The Program Fee…The Program Fee covers 12 Days of educational adventures including all academic materials, exclusive site visits to 5 renewable energy plants, four additional sustainability tours, a hands on community service project, all in-country transportation, medical and accident insurance, 25 gourmet organic meals, daily accommodations, nightly entertainment, letters of recommendation and other supporting documents, support with academic credit, access to all GREEN Network resources, and more. Items not included in the Program Fee are: round-trip airfare to Costa Rica, the governmental exit fee ($28) charged at the airport upon departure, and any discretionary spending. Please note that all program related costs will be covered from the moment you land in Costa Rica, which includes transportation from and to the airport via the GREEN Shuttle, daily food, accommodations, and all excursions and plant visits. It is recommended that each accepted student bring a small sum for discretionary spending such as souvenirs, snacks, etc. |
Submitting Payment…The Program Fee must be paid in full prior to attending the Program. It can be paid in one lump sum or through a 3-Part Payment Plan. Payments should be processed with a credit card or check. Your Personal Representative will help guide you through this portion of the registration process once you are accepted. Please note that GREEN offers five scholarships on an annual basis which serve as small subsidies for the Program Fee. If interested please ask your Personal Representative for a copy of the application. Additionally, many students have been able to secure outside support for the trip. Grants have been given through University departments, national scholarship funds and private companies. The educational nature of the GREEN Program along with a focus on philanthropy makes it a great candidate for corporate sponsorships and small government student grants. |
Your safety and comfort during the trip are a main focus area for our staff. Each program is led by at least three seasoned and professionally trained Program Counselors who become a trusted resource as you navigate the awe-inspiring landscapes of Costa Rica and the GREEN Program. Local tour guides serve as cultural gurus and ensure that your group experiences the “real” Costa Rica without solely focusing on the typical tourist attractions.
In addition, each student is automatically enrolled in a 12-day medical and accident insurance plan to protect against any risks during the trip. Costa Rica is also known as the safest country in Latin America, with no army and a peace-loving culture. As with traveling to any other country our students are expected to be vigilant, careful and conduct themselves with common sense during the Program. The only common criminal threat in Costa Rica is petty theft and/or pick pocketing, which is easily mitigated by keeping your eyes open and not leaving your personal belongings and luggage unattended in public places. The Program Director will provide a detailed safety overview on the first day of the Program to ensure that all students are cognizant of the risks and are thus able to enjoy their adventure to the fullest.
In addition, students are not required to attend each and every excursion. If you feel uncomfortable on the water, no one will pressure you to participate in jungle rafting or kayaking. Alternative activities will be provided. However, the supportive atmosphere of the Program provides a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery where students step outside their comfort zones and experience personal milestones and achievements.
Program staff can be reached by parents and/or contacts of the student in cases of an emergency back home. Likewise, each student will have access to free wireless internet and can easily communicate with their family using email or Skype. International calls can also be placed from the host hotels for additional fees paid directly to the hotel. In the past some students have activated an international plan on their cell phone but have typically found it unnecessary for daily use and only maintained it for emergencies and an alarm clock.
Please address any additional questions regarding safety to your Personal Representative or if you have not yet been accepted you can email info@greenworknow.com with your concerns.
As is customary for a program of our caliber, we take great pride in promising our attendees a cutting edge memorable educational experience with prudent consideration for safety and comfort.
