Community Service

The GREEN Program is proud of its emphasis on Community Service as well as its influence on the local communities in Costa Rica.

Local Action…

A small portion of the program fee is devoted to designing, developing and installing sustainable technologies in impoverished neighborhoods. GREEN Students collaborate with faculty and local engineers while creating a positive change that makes a lasting impact on both the students and the local community. Through the community service project students understand the importance of giving back and embrace the concepts of community service and philanthropy.

Students on past programs have installed several Sustainable Rainwater Collection Systems around the local communities, looking to expand their impact to more and more people. Future projects include installation of similar renewable energy systems on public elementary schools and community centers.

Global Impact…

Many students view the Community Service Project they complete during the GREEN Program as a conscious step towards a lifestyle of giving and support for those less fortunate. By cultivating the values of philanthropy and community service our students truly earn their place as impactful and responsible global citizens.

One of the underlying lessons of the GREEN Program is realized through exploration, understanding and meaningful impact to other people in need.

If you are interested in helping the community while receiving a one-of-a-kind educational experience and enjoying the adventurous culture of Costa Rica, the GREEN Program is for you!

Having completed a sustainable community service project, GREEN Students not only make a tremendous contribution to the lives of people in need but project themselves as responsible and socially-conscious individuals. Experience in hands-on community service becomes a great topic of conversation during job interviews and relationship building with key people in your field. Read about how some students have transformed their community service projects into admirable career steps and advancements.

Summer 2011

I had an excellent experience on the GREEN Program. I had never left the US before this and this was an amazing first taste of travel and life outside the US. The hands on experience and knowledgable tour guides made the plant visits memorable and impactful. Having the first hand knowledge of the way these energy systems work is important and will be hugely beneficial to my studies. Some of the most rewarding parts of the trip were interacting with the locals and attempting to communicate with them in Spanish. It really opened my eyes to a whole new world.
